Scientology

Scientology is a fairly new religion which was founded in 1954. It was founded by L. Ron Hubbard, a former science fiction writer, in California. There are about 77,000 Scientologists in the world, but some of the more famous ones, such as Tom Cruise and John Travolta, are part of the reason Scientology makes headlines.
The purpose of Scientology is to lead people to true spiritual release and freedom. It does not highlight certain beliefs about god and other topics that other religions traditionally deal with. Although Scientology does not deal with tradition religious topics, it still calls itself the Church of Scientology.
Scientology focuses on humanity and psychological tools that people can use to make their lives better. Scientology believes that human beings are made up of three parts: the body, the mind, and the thetan. The body is the physical part of the human and includes the brain, which carries messages. The mind is essentially made up of pictures, which consist of life experiences, memories, perceptions, decisions and conclusions. Lastly, the thetan is the soul, which is the true essence of a human being. Ron Hubbard uses the term thetan instead of soul because he felt that soul had too many meanings. Scientology believes that the theaten can exist without the body and/or mind.
Scientology is not considered a religion by all, but it calls itself a religion because it focuses on the soul and spiritual awareness.
