Unitarian Universalism
Unitarian Universalism is an atypical religious organization. It was founded in 1961 in Boston, Massachusetts. Unitarian Universalism has no founder, but was founded by the merger of two liberal Protestant denominations. Unitarians can mostly be found in the United States, but there are a total of 800,000 Unitarians in the world.
Unitarian Universalism does not require its followers to follow a specific set of beliefs. Its members include people who identify themselves with different religions. A lot of inter-faith couples find Unitarian Universalism to be a comfortable religious home. The main function of Unitarian Universalism is to assist its members in their spiritual quest.
Some of Unitarian Universalism’s main concerns include social justice and service to humanity. For this reason Unitarians were very active in the abolition of slavery, equal rights for women, and equal rights for all. Equal rights included the right to marry for same-sex couple. Unitarians also tend to adapt their beliefs to new findings of science.
